Of Religion and Philosophy

In the cosmic scheme of things, man is insignificant, even as a species. Indeed, in the cosmic scheme of things, life as we know it, is itself insignificant. Thus the need for philosophy, the need for religion. Unable to take responsibility for his actions, man seeks an explanation, a somebody or something on which to throw his responsibility. As with everything that is sought desperately and remains unfound, religion too was made up by man, all the while believing that it had been there and man had "found" it. And, as both religion and philosophy took the burden from the shoulders of the individual and placed it on divine or societal shoulders, they became the favourite refuge for anyone who found rationalising a tad too much of a strain on their minds.

Cheers.
