Go to Zine5 Interactive

The Innu are a Native American people.

Long ago, the Caribou Master decided that he would not give any caribou to the Innu, and as a result, the Innu began to starve. The Innu went to Matshishkapeu and asked him to help them. So Matshishkapeu went to the Caribou Master and asked him to give the Innu the caribou they needed. But the Caribou Master was stubborn and refused. So Matshishkapeu decided to punish him and caused him to be constipated. This caused the Caribou Master so much pain and discomfort that he felt he was dying. Then, he agreed to Matshishkapeu's request to provide caribou for the Innu. At this, Matshishkapeu cured him of his constipation. Even today, Matshishkapeu is far more powerful than the Caribou Master.
