The U.S. and Us

Go to Zine5 Interactive

The recent attacks on the USA have triggered off all kinds of reactions among people in India. While some say the USA deserved it for being so complacent at the time of terrorist attacks in India, others are deeply sympathetic about the great tragedy. Yet others are worried about their kith and kin in New York and Washington. Everyone, from 3-year olds to retired men and women is talking about what happened in the US.

Here are a few 'different' conversations that I overheard in the past few days, following the terrible attacks on the USA.

A lady to her neighbor: "Did you hear about the attacks on the US? Wasn't it exciting to see the plane crashing into the WTC?!"

A man to his colleagues at office: "Oh, boy! I can hear a plane in the distance... and our building has four floors! For all you know, the plane may crash right here!"

A palmist on the street: "The US has been attacked! Next may be our turn... Get your palm read! Learn what is in store for you!"

College student to her friend: "Hey, guess what? As per Nostradamus' predictions, this might be the end of the whole world! At last, I can quit worrying about my pimples!"

See the effect it has had on us? Well, with the possibility of war looming above us, there's not much we can do but to make light of the situation. For all you know, we might not be alive tomorrow! So enjoy everything while it lasts, and have a ball!
