Declaration of Independence

For the first time
In years, perhaps
I have done this 'crime'
Of doing something
On my own
Telling you
To leave me alone
'Coz it's my life.

For the first time
In all my life
I dared to mime
My closest friends
Who defied the world.
It's not like me
Who'd otherwise have curled
Meekly into a ball of nothing.

For the first time
In history, perhaps
I proved sublime
To my fellow-beings
Who are in love
My advice to them
Is to rise above
'Rules' and follow their heart.
