The Wayfarer
Go to Zine5 Interactive

Awaken my friend! the day has dawned
Shake off thy slumber, proceed on thy path
The road, I admit, is not paved with roses
Thou hast to overcome whoever opposes

The wayfarer was not impressed - he said
"There are opponents on the way, at every step an ambush
Pitfalls in plenty, difficult the onward push
It frightens me much to get started on the road
Thousand enemies I slew, thousands took their place
I countered blasts from hell, heaven's pitiless tests
Very slow the progress, rivals galore on the path
It frightens me much to get started on the road."

Take heart my friend, God's hands are with thee
He will protect from dangers whatever they be
The wayfarer was not impressed - he said
"The Lord hides behind a veil, like a winter sun behind the clouds
It frightens me much to get started on the road
Till I can tear that veil, clear those clouds."
