The Bore Comment on R. A. Pai's "The Bore"
© 2002 R. A. Pai

The people of Kovaipudur are a patient lot
They listen to all the tales I have got
Without a complaint, without a murmur
With a deadpan face devoid of humour.

I collar them on the street or in the shops
Talk without break, words follow words
In quick succession like Drona's darts
I'm surprised in the end they bear it all.

The people of Kovaipudur, I wish them well,
They hear patiently the stories I tell
What would they say behind my back?
Maybe "This guy we want to hack!"

One day I spotted an easy target
When I was on my way to the market
He turned on the side lane in all haste
To avoid an hour going waste

Wish I could his attention hold
Like the Ancient Mariner of old
Who, with piercing eyes and a look so bold
Bound the wedding guest till his tale was told.

The people of Kovaipudur, I wish them well
Even if they won't listen to what I tell
They can't escape me, no, not as yet
Now that I'm on the Internet!
