Sudden Rain
Comment on Vidya's "Sudden Rain"

A sudden shower of rain as I watch from my window
The birds and bees and butterflies
seem to be taken by surprise
I am surprised too,
wondering where these go
when rain arrives impromptu.

I see a crow take shelter
in the crook of two branches of a tree,
huddling into it.
Butterflies scatter from bushes
suddenly dripping with water
and fly away colourfully - where to?
Little birds soar bravely
against the lashing rain -
maybe towards the safety of their nests.

The rain stops - as abruptly as it started.
The little creatures return -
the crow calls loudly,
the butterflies browse peacefully,
the little birds race across the clear skies,
I am happy in the post-rain pleasantness.
