Somewhere far in
a deserted land
And speechless now in his grave
Rests a soldier long before died
...the faithful lover who lied
They say
Back in those old days, in the past
On the countryside this young man
Was so much in love with a girl
Pretty and eyes like aqueous pearl
They say
By meadows and green fields of corn
Where they talked endlessly eve or morn
He promised to love her till his last breath
Closing on meanings of life and death
They say
Then a war on the country befell
And he had to go to fight as well
But with a promise to come back soon
Happiness along to return and croon
They say
Long after had begun the war
There were no tidings of him till far
Until one day when war was ending
The harbinger of peace sending
They say
Received was one long epistle
Unfair enough to make people bristle
And the girl in love was broken to read
Her eyes filled with liquid bead
They say
The letter that was received, it said
That he found another girl, a maid
After war and found a new life to learn
So to forget him, he'll never return
They knew not
Misfortune as a war brings and more
Of misery in waiting and ruins galore;
Was struck this man young, innocent
With time's hands cruel, not well meant
They knew not
The man was injured much and had
Gashes and wounds pretty deep and bad
And announced to him it bitterly was
He'd die soon, all for a great cause
They knew not
The amount of pain it brought to him
And with despair his heart sore and dim
Memories of his beloved all-time haunting
And face of death stood before him daunting
They knew not
The ordinary man they had known him thus
Was put to test by divine's cruel buss
Though remained of him to be seen by none
If he passed or not, quandary if he could shun
They didn't know
The crisis with misfortune that fell on him
Had whetted his mind beyond anyone's whim
And amid the game of life and death's vice
Between truth and lie he chose sacrifice
They didn't know
How much his heart trembled at the thought
Of lying to his most beloved his mind fought
Restlessly, then finally with words he cheated,
For her happiness all disgrace he greeted
Somewhere far in a deserted land
And speechless now in his grave
Rests that soldier long before died
.....the faithful lover who lied
And strangely
As a mute tale where grave stays
Nearby, some spaces away the lone tree
When the wind blows, sheds wild flowers somehow
To reach as a homage to one noble no more now
And strangely
Anyone broken, desolate who comes wandering
There, lost faith in love altogether, and then
Sits by the grave to comfort his being when,
Strangely, he feels to love and love once again
