Identity by Molly
I am merely trying to uncover the identity of the species known as female. Why are we subjected to such humiliation?
A few days ago, I was going through the newspaper when I came across a horrifying piece of news. It was about a five-year-old girl whose life lay in ruins. Her uncle had raped her. She was in the hospital recuperating. This piece also mentioned that a similar incident had happened to another girl in the family by the same fellow. The matter had been hushed up in that particular episode.
Ghastly! This is the word that creeps in whenever I read about such incidents because I have myself been a victim of sexual abuse while I was growing up.

Much has been written about who are the predators and the consequent state of the victims. No one wants to read such reports anymore. A girl raped is just another statistic.
So, why am I writing this? I am merely trying to uncover the identity of the species known as female. Why are we subjected to such humiliation?
I have a daughter who is one and a half years old. And I am writing this to preserve her sanity and to make her value the human form bestowed upon her by existence. Though she is too little to comprehend this, I do not wish her the mistrust with which I led my life.
Woman. God made her beautiful and gifted her to man. In today’s world we are extremely vocal about woman’s rights and laws to protect her identity. But what defines her identity? Having a bosom is an identity? Yes. I feel proud to have a beautiful form. A woman reclaims her identity through her form. She knows a man needs this form to feel like a man. A man who is generated by this form reverts back to it seeking identity.
Hence the question of identity for woman dissolves. But desecration will continue ceaselessly. So, what requires to be changed? Is it society itself? But what of those who refuse to even glance at such happenings? How can we bring about change? How can we shield our daughters?
I wish I knew the answers. I wish I could have saved the thousands who succumbed to the spiritual injuries of such heinous acts.
I wish no girl must endure before time, the realization of her being susceptible to men. I wish every girl to embrace the prospect of womanhood with elation. I wish every woman to find respect before love. I wish men to cherish the gift of God.
Woman resides in Shiva,
Woman, the nine forms of Ma Durga,
Woman is Devi Saraswati,
Woman is Lord Rama’s Sita,
Woman is love-besotted Radha,
Woman is pious Lakshmi,
Woman is the completion of Shiva, Ma Parvati
